Did you know that wellbeing and mental health illness at work affects more people these days than physical health? You may be surprised to know that around 1 in 4 people are likely to be affected by poor mental health at some point in their lives.
Around 450 million people currently suffer from such conditions, placing mental disorders among the leading causes of ill health and disability worldwide.
What are the causes of mental health illness? It could be anything from:
- Someone struggling with physical health, which has impacted their mental health as a result.
- Someone going through difficult times at home, who is finding it difficult to cope.
- An issue with mental health appearing out of nowhere, which before you know has escalated into a crisis.
- Pressure at work. Because we all deal with pressure in different ways, it may be that someone is not dealing with increasing negative stress levels very well.
In the UK alone, did you know that mental ill health costs UK employers an estimated £34.9 billion each year?
With simple steps to improve the management of mental health in the workplace, such as enrolling your staff on a JCM Medical Advisors Adult Mental Health First Aid Training course, it will allow employers like you to save 30% or more of these costs. It will allow you to be able to support someone going through some very difficult times.
Isnít it about time you reached out to your fellow employees to offer them help and support in their workplace and working lives?
Having a trained person in the workplace to spot the potential issues and offer support and advice to someone could prevent an issue turning into a crisis. JCM Medical Advisors can help with that.
